Wellness ExamsThe best way to keep your pet healthy and give it a long happy life is to schedule annual wellness exams. Cats and dogs are mature adults in only two years or less, and in a very short period of time, they can develop significant health changes that need prompt attention. Annual wellness appointments with one of our veterinarians will ensure that a potential health problem is caught early, before it gets serious or life threatening. ![]() |
HeartwormsIn the southeast heartworms pose a major health problem for pets. We recommend that all dogs have a heartworm screening blood test annually and be placed on heartworm preventative medication as a puppy. This prescription-only medicine should be given throughout the year. VaccinationsVaccinations are also a very important part of wellness exams and preventative care. They protect pets from numerous diseases and need to be given on a certain schedule. Depending on a pet’s lifestyle and needs, there are specific vaccines that owners need to be aware of. You should discuss your pet’s immunization record with one of our veterinarians and make sure that it is up to date. We suggest that all puppies and kittens have a series of immunizations. For dogs, we include distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parainfluenza, parvovirus, bordetella and rabies in our program. For cats, we recommend the vaccination against feline leukemia, distemper, rhintracheitus, calicivirus and rabies. Rabies vaccines provide immunity for one year with the first vaccination and for three years with subsequent vaccines. The recommended schedule of vaccinations can be downloaded below. |
