Senior Pets

As pets get older they have special health needs, just like a person. Dogs age slightly more quickly than cats, and that varies with the breed and size of the animal. In general, a dog is considered a senior around 8-9 years old, and cats are at 9 -10 years.

We recommend that senior pets be brought in twice a year for slightly more extensive wellness exams and health screenings. This will involve a thorough physical exam including looking at their ears and eyes, oral exam, palpation of body and abdomen, auscultation of heart and lungs, and possibly some lab studies to check blood work.

By evaluating the animal’s health twice a year, we are able to diagnose many problems or potential health conditions early, allowing the best chance for treatment, and ensuring a longer, healthier life.
